Every photographer waits for that magical moment when an editor or a gallery says “we’d like to show some of your photographs”. It’s often only at that point that a photographer recognizes the importance of editing. This workshop is about editing and how to find the narrative in your photographs. Editing is the process by which we give meaning to our work and every student’s work will be viewed and examined in that way for him/her and for the whole class. Elements of sequencing, pairing, layout, form and format will be discussed.
Ogni fotografo aspetta quel momento magico in cui un photoeditor o una galleria gli dicono “Vorremmo esporre le tue fotografie”. Spesso è solo a quel punto che il fotografo si rende conto dell’importanza dell’editing. Ed é questo Il centro di questo workshop, la ricerca attraverso l’editing di una linea narrativa nelle immagini dei partecipanti. L’editing è il processo attraverso il quale il lavoro di un fotografo acquista un significato, ed a questo processo che sarà sottoposto, in maniera personalizzata e approfondita, il lavoro di ognuno dei partecipanti. Saranno discussi i principi della sequenza e degli accoppiamenti, il layout, la forma e il formato del lavoro.
Joan Liftin, a former editor and director of Magnum’s library will lead the workshop. Joan has also edited many photo books, including “Falkland Road” by Mary Ellen Mark: “Departures and Arrivals” by Charles Harbutt: Magnum’s Paris; and others. Joan was also Chairman of the Documentary Education Program at the International Center of Photography in New York City and has led workshops in Mexico, France, Italy and the United States.
Joan Liftin ha lavorato come Editor e come Direttrice della biblioteca dell’Agenzia Magnum. Ha curato, tra molte, le edizioni di “Falkland Road” di Mary Ellen Mark e “Departures and Arrivals” di Charles Harbutt. Joan è stata anche Direttrice del Corso di Fotografia Documentaria all’International Center of Photography a New York, e ha tenuto workshop in Messico, Francia, Italia e Stati Uniti
The workshop will be held in english.
A basic understanding of the english language is strongly suggested.
