Call for entries Tabò Prize

The Cultural Associations OFFICINE FOTOGRAFICHE ROMA and CONTROCHIAVE present the 10thEdition of the Prize Giovanni Tabò.

Established in 2009, this award is dedicated to the memory of the passionate photographer and organizer of FotoLeggendo, who died prematurely at the age of 44.

The contest, with no distinction between amateurs and professionals, is reserved for those under 44 years of age (born after January 1st, 1974).

To participate in the selection, just send to Officine Fotografiche Roma via WeTransfer a photographic portfolio, consisting of a maximum of 15 low-resolution JPEG files (the long side of 1500 pixels). Authors can submit up to one portfolio.

The portfolio must be submitted by Sunday, May 6th, 2018.

All portfolios received on time, in compliance with the rules of the competition, will be screened by a selection jury who will choose two portfolios to be exhibited in June during FotoLeggendo Festival 2018. The two portfolios on show will be awarded first and second prizes by portfolio reviewers of FotoLeggendo. The award ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 10th, 2018, during the festival opening days. Further details on the FotoLeggendo program and the award will be announced on the event website www.fotoleggendo.it.

We strongly advise all participants to pay special attention to Rules, as failure to comply will result in exclusion from the competition. To this end, we anticipate what follows:

– The regulation requires the sending of low-resolution images, in JPEG format (long side approximately equal to 1500 pixels) exclusively via WeTransfer at premiotabo@fotoleggendo.it

– The images must be distinguished by a number corresponding to the place of the image in a sequential reading of the Portfolio (01.jpeg, 02.jpeg, …) and inserted in a folder marked only by the work title. A written supplement to the portfolio, named by the work title only, is not required, but recommended, as it may be useful to the Selection Committee during the examination. It is mandatory to send a short biography of the author, or authors in the case of groups. Do not send other materials such as movies, music videos, catalogs drafts, etc.

– It’s mandatory to send the scanning of the signed participation form, as acceptance of the rules and processing of personal data, properly compiled; the scanning of an identification document stating the age of the applicant (of all applicants in the case of groups).

Photojournalism Award
Call For Entries - Submission from March 15th to May 15th -

IlReportage Photojournalism Award

curated by Il Reportage, Officine Fotografiche and Leica Camera Italia

Il Reportage, the quarterly literary, journalism and photography review, in collaboration with Officine Fotografiche Roma and Leica Camera Italia, is pleased to announce the first edition of Il Reportage Photojournalism Award 2016, an international documentary photography competition. The theme of this first edition is “Borders”. With this theme, we want to refer to an idea of a border that, starting from the geopolitical concept of the term, transcends it and arrives at exploring its meaning in all its nuances. In this regard, the words of the philosopher Zygmunt Bauman are enlightening:

“Boundaries are drawn to create differences, differences between one place and the rest of space, between one stretch of time and the rest of time, between one category of human creature and the rest of humanity. […] In our fast-globalising world borders become less and less effective […] they acquire more and more significance and tend to be over-saturated with meaning. […] Borders, either made of bricks and cement or just symbolic are sometimes battlefields but they are also creative labs of the art of living together. They are also soils in which  seeds of future forms of humanity are thrown and grow (consciously or not).”

The competition is open to all professional photographers and young talents, without anyrestriction in terms of nationality , who wish to present a selection of photographs (between 15 and 25) of a finished work that has been carried out in the past two years and that is related to the theme, interpretable either through stories that are focused on contemporary issues of great scope or on micro-social contexts of everyday life and situations that are given little space in traditional media.

Over.State - Ilias Georgiadis

Ilias Georgiadis

Over.State

curated by Michele Corleone

Opening: november 14th at 7 pm @Officine Fotografiche Roma   Time Zones: “For me, photography is the missing dot that connects what is deep inside us and we cannot understand or describe, with the world. A connection that transcends and moves through space-time, in unpredictable, mysterious and non-linear ways. A link between reality and love. I believe we take pictures because our inner self wants to reconnect with the cosmos. We want to feel close to people, places, objects and as time goes by, we recognize in them a part of ourselves. With photography, we reveal ourselves to the unknown, while preserving a link to the real. My work depicts my innermost states of fear, desire, affection. Standing in the middle between life and death. In particular, "Over.State" depicts the story of a young and lost person trying to feel free and find love. An emotional exploration of the human condition. An effort to understand how we express freedom, intimacy, closeness; how we seek true connection with the inner self and the other. But also here, for the very first time, I am presenting works that were born before “Over.State"(“Archives”) and works that were born very recently(“Vialattea”). What interests me here is to question coherence and to explore those pivotal moments of <<change>> during the artistic and creative process. And by creating a setting of different <<zones>> I am trying to express and visualize this experience, morphing it into something illusionary linear and diverse which is how we prefer to perceive change over time. [slideshow_deploy id='7537'] -I.G.
Over.State by Grzegorz Kosmala(publisher, Blow Up Press) There are many books that discuss the lives of their authors. Thanks to them we can hear the voice of the whole generation, learn about its fears and hopes, worries and joy. But none of these books talks about it in such a visually sophisticated manner as Ilias Georgiadis does in his book debut... Over.State does not contain any information about the time and place, that makes the book even more universal. We can think, we know its characters, we have met them somewhere on the way. Also, lack of any introduction to the story, an attempt to explain it, gives this book a special dimension: the reader must go through it alone, page by page, must try to understand the meaning of words chaotically written here and there to realise at the end: “This is about me…” No matter what they depict, the photographs taken by Ilias are magnetic. They absorb you completely, remain in memory for hours after seeing them. And every time you come back to them, they do it again and again, and again... When looking at the pictures from Over.State, one can get an impression of balancing on the border between reality and dream, life and death, something permanent and ephemeral. These images are like a love poem and Ilias Georgiadis becomes a poet of photography...

Biography

<> Born in northern Greece, Ilias started experimenting with the photographic medium at the age of 19. After extensive travels in 2011, he stops his university studies and starts making pictures in an obsessive way. Ηis main interest focuses on the basis of the current social and interpersonal issues about human nature. An approach based on Europe which started in 2012 in Greece and continues until now. He is always questioning the body and the mind, always trying to reach and express the limits of oneself within all possible ways. Ilias’s debut series of work named "Over.State" has been shown in various international festivals, solo and group shows across the world and has been featured in on-line and printed publications. In 2019, "Over.State" published as a monograph by Blow Up Press(Warsaw). Currently, Ilias is working on his new book titled "Vialattea".
